What is Lymphedema Treatment
Did you know that Lymphedema currently affects more than 5 million Americans? That’s more than Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, & AIDS. COMBINED. According to the World Health Organization, more than 250 million people suffer worldwide. Lymphedema can be caused by a wide variety of issues, including cancer, obesity, chronic venous insufficiency, and previous surgeries. While there is no cure, it can be well-managed if addressed early on.
People from all walks of life can develop lymphedema, and Good Morning America even did a bit about lymphedema earlier this month when TV talk show host, Wendy Williams, announced that she too suffers from this condition. https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/wellness/video/wendy-williams-reveals-lymphedema-6423516
The point being made here is that this condition can affect anyone, and that you are not alone. If you have been diagnosed with lymphedema, it is important to seek out a lymphedema specialist who can properly address your concerns and create an appropriate course of action for you. Because many different pre-cursors can make you susceptible to the onset of this condition, it’s important to have a unique treatment plan designed to address your specific needs.
At OC sports & rehab, we specialize in the Lymphedema Treatment, and the other co-morbidities that come along with it. Cary Costa and Jason Baran have even designed their own lymphatic compression pump called Radia Recovery, for our patients to use at home to manage their swelling. They are completely portable, battery-powered, comfortable, and user-friendly. After completing a 2-month protocol at our facility and using our pumps in-house, with coordination from their medical doctors and insurance companies we try to get our patients a home pump so that they can continue to manage and maintain their progress from the comfort of their couch, or wherever life may take them. Wendy Williams even boasts that her lymphatic compression pump is a “total hit at parties.” For more information about our pump company, Radia Recovery, please visit radiarecovery.com.
